Personal memories cannot be updated and are not found by item_list/recall without a projectId #366
Description
Observed 2026-09-26 in a Claude Code session outside of any project (D:\tmp, no .agents/conderis.json).
Steps
item_store(kind=memory, fields={...}, visibility=private)without projectId -> published as personal memorymemory:1146, version 1.- Update it:
item_store(kind=memory, number=1146, version=1, fields={...})without projectId -> errorprojectId is required; only personal memories are stored without it. item_list(kind=memory, query="uv torch cu128")without projectId ->{"entries":[],"total":0}, although the memory title/summary contain those words.recall(focus="python uv torch")without projectId -> only the guide header, no personal memories.item_get(ref="memory:1146")-> works, returns the memory (scope user, version 1).
Expected
- A personal memory can be changed, e.g.
item_storeacceptingref: memory:<id>(analogous to item_get) ornumberresolving to the personal scope when no projectId is given. item_list(kind=memory)without projectId lists/searches personal memories.recallwithout projectId returns personal memories (the tool description says it includes "your personal memories").
Impact
Agents cannot correct an outdated personal decision; the workaround was to store a second memory (memory:1147) that says it supersedes 1146, which leaves a stale duplicate. The server instructions tell agents to store user preferences as personal memories, so this path is common.
Also check whether item_delete works for personal memories without projectId.
